The Senior Planner oversees the submission of various planning and permitting applications, prepares reports and schedules, communicates with client on planning and permitting deliverables, reviews land use planning legislation and liaises with municipalities and other government entities so that projects are completed on time and within scope.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $105,000

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
- Participate in and provide leadership to a diverse and capable Planning and Permitting team.
- Provide oversight to the work of other planners, provide regular feedback, coaching, assignment of work, establishment of goals, and formal reviews.
- Contribute to a highly efficient and positive culture where employees are empowered and accountable for areas of responsibility.
- Provide expertise and leadership relating to project tasks.
Business Development
- Provide support in developing Land Use Planning Services
- Identify opportunities to provide additional client services.
- Participate in proposal activities.
- Finalize planning deliverables that are delivered with quality service that meet or exceed customer satisfaction, with a particular focus on employee development, process implementation, documentation, capacity management, and administration.
- Provide leadership and expertise for employee performance and succession, and guidance on process improvement.
- Lead and/or support the planning, permitting and land acquisition activities at all levels of government and public/private agencies for various infrastructure development, renewable energy, telecommunications, and other rights-of-way projects.
- Maintain strong, professional relationships with clients and permitting authorities.
- Support, coordinate, and conduct municipal delegations (to Councils, Boards, Committees, etc.) and facilitate public open houses, information sessions, and written forms of consultation with communities according to various processes related to project proposals.
- Develop and/or improve internal processes and standards for better efficiency in completing deliverables and tasks.
- Manage projects within the scope of planning and permitting.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary degree, ideally in geography, GIS, land acquisition/real estate, planning, or a business related discipline are considered an asset.
- Minimum 10 years of professional Planning and/or permitting experience.
- Experience with infrastructure, renewable, telecommunications, and/or other right-of-way projects in Canada.
- Experience working in US jurisdictions is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of local land use approval processes, the Planning Act, and other related Provincial legislation and plans.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an extremely keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent coaching skills
- Adept at managing client expectations
- Able to organize, set priorities and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- A valid ‘G’/Class 5 or equivalent driver’s licence is required.
